How to cut in edges?
Cutting in paint is the process of painting all difficult to reach areas for your paint roller. Ceiling edges, around electrical outlets, around trim, etc. At the end of cutting in you will just cover the major areas of your walls and be done.
What you will need:
Assuming you got your area ready to paint (everything moved, floors covered up, paint ready, etc)
1. Paint brush
Some people can get away with using a regular paint brush but the best paint brush for this paint project is a angled sash brush.
2. Painters tape
If your not a professional painter we recommend using tape to get straight and sharp lines.
Process
Tape the edges
Depending on your comfort levels with your ability using a paint brush, you may or may not need tape. Its always safer to just use tape and not worry about getting paint on areas you did not want to such as ceiling, baseboard, door, etc.
Cut in
Start by cutting in your ceiling line. Then continue with your other edges. You should be fading your paint off the edge about 5 inches. This will make sure that you don't have to come close to the ceiling when you come back and paint roll your wall. Don't forget to remove your outlet cover! you don't want to be painting around them when you can just remove and reinstall when your done.
Take your time! you don't want to end up taking more time fixing your mistakes.
